‘Ginintuang Pamana’ Showcase of Northern Mindanao’s best in Intramuros opens

The Department of Tourism (DoT) is set to unveil the hidden wonders of Northern Mindanao as "Ginintuang Pamana," a theme of the "Philippines’ Bests!," marks its grand opening tomorrow at the Clamshell 1 in Intramuros, Manila.

DoT Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, along with the local officials of Region 10, will grace the launching of this highly anticipated cultural affair.

"Ginintuang Pamana of the Philippines" Bests embraces the remarkable history of Northern Mindanao. Visitors can feast their eyes on the remarkable artistry and diversity of our people," Durano said.

The "Ginintuang Pamana" theme highlights the cultural landmarks, festivals and different crafts, including the delectable cuisines of the provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental and the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Gingoog, Iligan, Ozamiz, Oroquieta, Tangub, Malaybalay and Valencia.

Part of the exhibit display is the Malasag Eco and Cultural Village of Cagayan de Oro, Torogan House of Lanao del Norte, the second largest pipe organ and old Spanish fortress, the Cotta of Ozamiz, and the winning pieces of arches of Misamis Oriental, among others.

Spectators can taste the region’s famous delicacy, the sinuglao (a mixture of sinugba or grilled pork belly), kinilaw (marinated raw fish – tanigue and malasugi), and dodol (sticky rice with jam).

Ostrich meat from Cagayan de Oro are for sale at the exhibit along with other food products and crafts from the region.

Also, investment forum for each province and cities are scheduled by cluster: May 22 to 27 are Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Gingoog; May 28 are Iligan City and Lanao del Norte; and May 21 to 31 are Tangub, Oroquieta, Ozamiz and Misamis Occidental.

Now on its third year of exhibiting its premium tourist products in Manila, DoT Region 10 Officer-in-Charge Elena Manalo promises a fresher look on its presentation. "We are proud to say that Region 10 has it all in terms of arts, history, ecological adventure and sports tourism," said Manalo.

She added that aside from the colorful historical heritage, Northern Mindanao is also endowed with rich natural resources – a haven for nature lovers and beach buffs.

DoT’s "Philippines’ Bests" uses a thematic approach, with each quarter focusing on a specific feature that characterizes the country’s tourism products. Durano said that the intensified commitment of the DoT to promote the beauty of the Philippines will entice tourists to explore and experience the country.

The event will have a soft opening today and it will be open to the public everyday from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight except on Mondays when it opens at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
