It’s Christmas day everyday this December at General Santos as the city celebrates "Pasko Sa GenSan 2005: Pasko at Bagong Taon Araw-Araw".

Department of Tourism (DoT) Secretary Ace Durano said that "Gensan’s lengthy celebration of the Christmas season highlights the Filipino’s love for life and festivities. The month-long event will surely give domestic tourism a big boost."

Loaded with various activities, the celebration, which is now on its fourth year, is expected to attract huge numbers of spectators not only from the city but from the nearby provinces as well.

Rose Acharon, who chairs the organizing committee said, "There will be variety of surprises for everybody everyday for the whole month of December".

The ceremonial lighting of the giant Christmas tree last Dec. 2 signaled the beginning of the month-long festivities. The local government, during the opening salvo, also had the Parada ng mga Parol and the Drum, Bugle, and Lyre Competitions.

Daygon sa Bayabayon, Hataw Sayawan sa Paskuhan, Tunog Pasko Songwriting Contest, Himig Pasko-Himig Gensan, Belen sa Gensan Competition, and Parada ng mga Parol sa Fishport are among the many other competitions which are integrated in Pasko sa Gensan 2005 that seek to commemorate the Filipino tradition of celebrating the Christmas holidays.

Adding revelry each night are variety shows and contests sponsored by the various FM radio stations in the city, such as nights of Disco, videoke challenge, and rap jingle contest.

There will also be Krismas Karnabal, Krismas Tiangge, Krismas Party Zone, and Paskuhan Palengke to entertain both the locals and guests of the monthlong event.

Significantly, there will also be numerous gift-giving activities sponsored by Representative Darlene Antonio-Custodio, the Rotary Club of Midtown Gensan, and the Lion’s Club to complement the main thrust of the Pasko sa Gensan 2005 which is to benefit the less privileged.
