The spectacle of the Orionids best seen at the Seven Suites

On the nights of Oct. 20 and 21, the Orionids will grace the night skies with about 15-20 meteors per hour. And like all spectacles in the sky, it is best seen in a place that has a high elevation and a clean environment. One of the best places that fit this profile is Antipolo since the bustling city overlooks the metropolis.

In Antipolo, Seven Suites Hotel Observatory has carved a niché among road travelers and honeymooners. But with the Orionids, it attracts a throng of astroenthusiasts — from kids to adults alike.

"The Moon won’t be a problem as it will be almost New Moon on these nights. Like all meteor showers, the Orionids are caused by debris from a particular comet," explained Seven Suites’ in-house astronomer Ramon Acevedo. "In this shower, debris from the famous Halley’s comet will be the meteors streaking in our skies. The peak of the shower will actually occur on 11:22 p.m. on the 21st but the shower can be enjoyed on the 20th."

Just recently, Seven Suites has two newly-built rooms dubbed as "Presidential Suite" and "Honeymoon Suite" which aims to give a total relaxation experience to guests. The Presidential Suite is a luxurious suite with an adjoining lounge and entertainment area, perfect for groups, friends and barkadas.

The relaxing climate, the laid-back atmosphere and the ‘get away’ experience all make Antipolo a perfect destination to unwind and have a great time and it is very near Manila, just a 30-minute drive from Ortigas. Seven Suites offers a magnificent view of the metropolis especially at night when the lights serve as a perfect background for a conversation.

The Honeymoon Suite is especially recommended when viewing "celestial spectacles" such as the Orionids since this newly-built room has full-glass panels as its walls. Its location at the upper deck of the hotel gives guests an unobstructed view of the nighttime lights of the city below and the twinkling of the stars in night.

"Weather permitting, everyone can enjoy this celestial event. And the shower can possibly produce some fireballs or bright meteors," added Ramon.

Seven Suites Hotel Observatory, now on its eighth year, is located at Hollywood Hills Subdivision, Sumulong Highway, Antipolo City (across Valley Golf Country Club).
