The province of Camarines Norte in the Bicol region is holding the third "Bantayog Festival" in observance of its 87th founding anniversary.

The festival was named after the first Rizal monument built on Dec. 30, 1898 in Daet town by Filipino revolutionaries, according to Abel Icatlo, provincial tourism and cultural officer,

It is the first to be built in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal and antedates by 14 years the present monument at the Rizal Park which was erected only in 1912.

The festival kicks off with a motorcade around Daet and neighboring towns, a visual art exhibit featuring local artists, a tourism and trade fair, and evening variety shows.

To rediscover the great outdoors of the province, there are national surfing competition, regional sand carving competition, kite flying competition, beach volleyball, beach football, a 10-kilometer run, indigenous Filipino games and the MoTurista V Drag Race Competition.

The festival culminates today, April 15 with the Foundation Day socio-civic military parade, float competition, and a colorful grand street parade showcasing the local festivals of the 12 municipalities.
