Summer splashes away

The merry month of May may be ending, as well as the sweltering summer heat. But fun and thrill seekers still opt to ride out the remaining days of summers on beaches and resorts that are aplenty outside the metropolis.

The more practical however would prefer to spend family outings near Metro Manila.

Splash Island, strategically located at the Southwoods Ecocentrum in Binan, Laguna, just after the Southwoods exit of the South Luzon Expressway, is highly recommended for those on a tight budget. It offers a less costly yet more leisurely escape from the city’s heat, given its proximity to Metro Manila.

There is no need to stay overnight and spend extra for cottages and cabana rentals. Many families who have gone to the water park swear to coming back, considering the less expense and travel time involved.

Splash Island is open only during summertime up to the month of July.

In its many years of serving the public, the park, with its array of slides, pools and other attractions brings joy and thrill to both adults and children.

One of the main charms remains the Agos Grande, with its simulated waves and beach-like walkways, complete with white sand, pebble stones and lounging chairs for sun-bathers. Kids also go gaga over the Water Wahoo, a knee-deep pool with unique showers.

Also an easy favorite among the slides is the Twisted Palms where one can experience thrilling twists with an exhilarating back to back 360 and 160 degree turn.

Other slides include King Pilipit, another twisted, partially covered, body slide; Rio Montanosa, a ride for the entire family; Dos Supremos with two giant twisters that lead to a gigantic pool; Big Bam Boo, a covered tunnel ride; the sky-high mat race ride called Magellan’s drop; Balsa River for those lazy bodies who want to enjoy the sun while drifting around a gently flowing river and a whole lot more.

With 21 other water attractions, Splash Island can accommodate as much as 10,000 guests in a safe and clean environment, as there are highly-trained lifeguards and medical staff to attend to their needs and to any emergency.
