People from Isabela will bring the pilgrim image of their patroness, Our Lady of Guibang, when she joins the Marian procession on Dec. 2, 4 p.m. in Intramuros, Manila.

Her official title is Our Lady of the Visitation of Guibang, a barrio of Gamu in Isabela.

Our Lady of Guibang was canonically crowned by Apostolic Nuncio Carmine Rocco in May, l973, while the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines in January, l986 elevated her church in Guibang to a national shrine.

Tradition reveals that way back in 1905, a certain young man brought the image to the hut of a poor couple named Francisco Noe and Maria Noble and asked them to pray the Rosary and offer good works of mercy in honor of the Blessed Mother.

The couple lighted a candle in front of the statue and prayed the whole night. At dawn the following morning, the couple noticed an unusually sweet fragrance in their hut. They discovered that the fragrance was coming from the statue of the Blessed Mother. This unusual occurrence lasted for several days.

It did not take long before the news of this extraordinary happening spread throughout the village of Guibang. Soon people came in numbers to the poor couple’s hut and sang hymns to Our Lady.

The Marian procession organized by the Cofradia de la Inmaculada Concepcion and Intramuros Administration, will feature 70 carrozas.
