Lanterns of different shapes, sizes and colors danced their way on the streets of Obando, Bulacan for its first "Pasko ng Sining."

The people of Bulacan, known for their craftsmanship, created lanterns made from indigenous and recyclable materials such as papers, bottles, candy wrappers and even sea shells.

"Pasko ng Sining is really more of an arts festival designed to develop creativity among the local folks in the various fields of the art, namely craftmaking, painting, music, dance and theater," said Department of Tourism (DoT) regional director Ting delos Reyes.

The festival, De los Reyes added, intends to teach Filipinos how to be creative and responsible to their environment through the arts and ecology.

"It is one way also to develop the people’s keener appreciation of local cultural traditions seen or experienced during Christmas time," he added.

More than 50 lanterns representing six schools in Obando were displayed, with each lantern taking almost two months to make.

Pundasyong Kasilonawan ng Obando (PUKAO), the organizer of Pasko ng Sining envisions this event to eventually transform Obando into the Pinoy Christmas capital of Bulacan.

Bulacan is popularly known for its historical sites, old houses and churches, idyllic ecological attractions, unique festivals and a wide selection of elegant native crafts and sumptuous delicacies.
