Indeed, one of the most favorite travel destinations in the whole Philippines would be the majestic queen of the south, Cebu City. A city that is widely acclaimed for its mixture of urban and country tourist spots, no tourist should have a complete journey to Southeast Asia without paying a visit to Cebu.

What Makes Filipinos Proud of Cebu

Any native would be proud if they have a city highly sought after by tourists. And in the Philippines, Cebu City is one of those highly sought after cities. If you’re interested to know what makes Filipinos proud of Cebu and what makes foreigners keep coming back, read on.

Malapascua Island

If you know Spanish, you should immediately translate the name of the island to Unfortunate Christmas. But don’t be fooled by the name because if anything, tourists and natives are very fortunate to enjoy the natural scenery of Malapascua Island. In Malapascua Island, island time reigns supreme – this simply means that the moment your foot touches its sandy shore, all the stress you get from work and life is instantly peeled away.

Moalbal

If you dislike crowds but don’t want to settle for a second rate beach, Moalbal is the place to be. A small, quiet town in Cebu, Moalbal was once a favorite diving spot in the early 1980’s but it was soon forgotten once other, flashier beach spots proliferated. This doesn’t mean, however, that it lost its charm. In fact, its quiet status holds the most appeal to travelers who prefer to spend their vacation with just the sound of crashing waves to soothe them.

Sinulog Festival

Nowhere in the world could there be festivals as many and as entertaining as those found in the Philippines. And since festivals are our topic for the day, Cebu’s Sinulog Festival should then be a part of the topic.

Celebrated every third Sunday of January, the Sinulog Festival is a celebration in honor of the Holy Image of Señor Sto. Niño de Cebu. Like all festivals, there would be lots of food, games and dancing to enjoy in this annual feast.

The Guitars of LapuLapu City

Just so you’d have a little background information, LapuLapu is the name of the first Filipino hero. When Magellan came to conquer the Philippines, LapuLapu led the rebellion and managed to drive their would-be-conquerors away.

And now, LapuLapu City is the site of arguably the best-made guitars in the Philippines. If you’re up to seeing how guitars are made, this is the place to go to.
