The reported encounter between the military and a breakaway group of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) confined at the isolated area of Sitio Marabon, Barangay Bancalaan, Balabac Palawan has not impinged on tourism activities in Palawan and surrounding destinations.
Inaccessible from Palawan’s center of tourism, Balabac is a remote area located at the southernmost tip of the province, approximately 235 kilometers South of Puerto Princesa and 390 kilometers from El Nido.
At present, the AFP Western Mindanao Command and the Palawan Police Provincial Office are in control of the situation. Several outposts surrounding the island of Maribon have been stationed until completion of clearing operations.
The DoT is closely coordinating with the AFP, the Palawan Disaster Coordinating Council, the Palawan Police Provincial Office and DoT Region 4 for updates and reports.
The agency confirms that there are no tour cancellations in Palawan due to the incident. Commercial activities and public services maintain regular operations.
