Approaching the southwest bank of Samal Island from the Davao City marina, one gets a clear view of the rolling thick greens of the island’s vegetation. As the boat slows down to dock, details get richer and the diverse flora and fauna become more noticeable—from the outgrowth of trees, to the flurry of birds nestled in its canopies.

The Pearl Farm Beach Resort is a recluse molded into the overflowing tropical plant life eager to sprawl and acquaint itself with the sea. Delicately placed amidst two terrains, with thick jungle landscape out back and white sand beach in front, the resort creates a unique balance between different grounds.

The purely Filipino—inspired façade of the resort is practically molded onto the local landscape creating a harmony between the community and the wild. Carefully plotted into the dense foliage are amenities that give Pearl Farm its distinct feel.

Upon disembarking at the resort dock, one gets the full treatment as if prompting a voluntary forgetfulness, an escape from the real world. Exploring the confines of the resort induces an overwhelming awareness of the living and breathing earth manifested in the distant sound of the forest, an experience that offers a closer interaction with nature.

With accommodations that range from guestrooms, suites, cottages on stilts, and executive villas that reflect the tribal culture of Mindanao, each tempts the senses to let go and melt along with the island’s flow and commune with the unknown inhabitants of the island.

The Pearl Farm is more than just any other island getaway. Its white sand beaches provide an ample stretch of fine spaces to appreciate the beauty of the sea in its most pristine condition. The resort also has swimming pools for those looking to relax in a more controlled water setting. The infinity pool that greets guests in front of the Maranao restaurant provides a scenic space. The water’s edge almost seems inexistent as the view from within the pool simply merges with the rest of the sea ahead. The pool and Jacuzzi situated in the middle of the Mandaya houses provide a more laid back setting, with overhanging trees to shade the space, even from the scorching noontime sun.

Activities provided by the resort are nothing short of adventurous —wind surfing, water polo, jet skiing, and scuba diving. Also, an exploration of the Samal Island is always something to look forward to as the pure natural beauty of the place is almost enough to quench one’s inquisitive nature. From the wide expanse of Samal to the various islands surrounding it and the numerous reefs to dive and snorkel at, each provides a glimpse at the wonders of this destination.

The resort’s Ylang-Ylang Spa is a refuge for the tired and weary. The soothing treatments use natural ingredients known for their healing and wellness effects that calm the mind, ease the body, and reinvigorate the spirit.

Facing westward from the beach, a view of calm blue waters meets the senses, broken only by the view of the quiet Malipano Island. As the sun sets against the towering Mt. Mayon backdrop, guests can indulge on premium culinary delights and a collection of the best Spanish Arzuaga wines.

Time seems to stand still on this mysterious Island called Samal. Somehow everything that appears important fades away as one is encapsulated by the sheer purity of nature. Nothing else matters except the sun above, the sand below, and the sea that surrounds it.
