Bonifacio Global City hosts Lenten Season reflections

MANILA, Philippines-- Bonifacio Global City (BGC) once again joins the nation in its observance of the Lenten Season through the hosting of Church Simplified’s “Walkway: Reflections on the Stations of the Cross” at the Bonifacio High Street from Palm Sunday (April 17) through Easter Sunday (April 24).

The Walkway traces the footsteps of Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the cross at Calvary with modern art installations marked with ingenuity, self expression and personal discovery. It challenges the way we see the events surrounding the death of Jesus as each station talks to us in our present-day experiences.

The stations are not the usual renditions seen in churches, rather an installation of easily understandable life-sized symbolisms -- like the elegant armchair symbolizing a king’s throne but with a crown of thorns seated on it to represent 6th Station of the Cross - “Jesus is crowned with Thorns.” The station board gives the story as quoted in the bible followed by a reflection guide.

Specially moving is Station 13 – The Cloth: Jesus Resurrection. The board relates the story of Resurrection as recorded in the Gospel of John. Picking up on Peter’s seeing the strips of linen strewn in Jesus’ tomb, as well as the burial cloth folded separately, participants are enjoined to write messages on the pieces of paper to their loved ones or to anyone who had touched their lives in a special way and hung them on the strings. Like last year, plenty are again expected to write notes of appreciation and apology and express their love to parents, spouses, children and friends.

This 45-minute reflective journey is sprawled throughout Bonifacio High Street’s nearly one kilometer-long landscaped park. It is open from 11AM to 11PM.

The week long exhibit culminates with an Easter Concert on April 27, 7PM that launches a music album entitled Brighter Lights, featuring soulful performances by some of the country’s finest recording artists and musicians like Amber Davis, Barbie Almalbis- Honasan, Julianne, Jay Durias, Marcus Davis, Jr., Nyco Maca, Paolo Valenciano, Robin Nievera and, up and coming bands, The Walkie Talkies and The Plan.

The Walkway in Bonifacio High Street gives the city dwellers an opportunity to ponder on events that took place some 2,000 years ago through a unique reflection guide and in a refreshing setting, thoughtfully recalling how God demonstrated his love for humanity and drawing people closer to Him and to each other.
