MANILA, Philippines -- Judging from the traffic in Mactan Cebu, it might as well be called the new Manila. But never mind the inconvenience. Think about what the rest of Cebu has to offer - like destination resorts where one does not need to leave the comfort of the hotel to have a fantastic vacation time. One of them is the Moevenpick Resort and Spa.

After its successful takeover (from another famous international hotel chain) last April, the resort is definitely the latest must-visit for business or leisure travellers. Not only are they changing its color from pink to ochre tones via a P120 million peso renovation, they are also bringing in their signature upscale hotel management with Swiss roots.

Since it was founded in 1973, Moevenpick Hotels and Resorts has evolved into one of the 50 leading hotel groups, based on an international survey.

“The goal of Moevenpick is to exceed the high expectations of its guests with every stay. We distingiush ourselves through modern infrastructure, perfect service, and favorable locations in city centers, near airports, or close to trade fairs,” says resort director of business development and director of operations in the Philippines Helmut Gaisberger in a brief chat during the resort's painting party held recently.

Gaisberger adds, “A comprehensive offering of leisure and sporting activities is a priority, like exclusive spa and wellness facilities and an extensive selection of excursion opportunities to ensure the wellbeing of guests whether they are adventure seekers or those seeking tranquility. ”

“The company's culinary services also enjoy an excellent reputation thanks to a decade-long tradition and experience in the business. In particular, guests are spoiled using every facet of the trade from the finest ingredients to creative recipes. A fine mix of legendary Moevenpick classic creations as well as typical Swiss specialties, authentic local and trendy theme restaurants offer something special for every taste.”

Of wine and wagyu, among other things

While at the resort, be sure to visit Manny O's Wine and Tapas for a delectable dining experience. Owned by Manny Osmeña, chairman of Oikonomos International Resources, the partner company of Moevenpick and also the creator of the famous Manny O. wines. This writer had the pleasure of indulging in wine and wagyu and it was heavenly considering I'm not a wine drinker.

Guests can enjoy nearby islands or fun-filled water adventures via Islands Banca Cruises. Not an ordinary boat, Islands Banca is furnished with an iPod dock, wireless internet access, and comfy beanbags lining its extra wide sunbathing decks. Nice, thoughtful touches such as fresh towels, a welcome drink, cold beverages, and snacks are likewise available on board and offered to guests by its professional crew.

Lastly, for guaranteed moments of relaxation and rejuvenation, step into the resort's exclusive spa and let the pure fresh air and tranquil surroundings fill your senses. The spa has a tantalizing array of treatments and therapies that soothes away tension and stress; blending age-old traditions of the healing power of touch with the exotic and magical allure of the East.

“Moevenpick is proud that we are starting in Cebu, but as you know, there will be several more destinations in the Philippines where Moevenpick will have a hotel,” Gaisbergerproudly concludes.
