As Valentine’s day draws near, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has been presenting its new video campaign featuring the Philippines as a good “romantic destination,” Radyo Singko reported a few weeks ago.

In the video, a man proposed to his partner with the help of Filipino boatmen. The video campaign ended with the slogan ”Popping the question, more fun in the Philippines.”

According to DOT Secretary Ramon Jimenez, apart from visiting the Philippines for a vacation, couples also visit to propose to their partners or to have a wedding.

“Aside from all the laughter, the humor, the food, romance is very much a part of our offer,” Jimenez said in an interview by a separate media outfit.

Jimenez also said that most of the foreign couples visiting the country are Japanese, Korean and European nationals. The famous beaches of Boracay is the major destination for weddings.

The tourism chief further added that foreigners also find the Filipinos’ romantic side as “very appealing to a lot of foreigners.”

“It started with Filipinos getting married there; now you have foreigners getting married in the Philippines,” Jimenez was quoted in the said interview. —With additional report by Romsanne Ortiguero
