Seminar on restoring Paoay Church

THE NATIONAL Commission for Culture and the Arts with the

municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte and the San Agustin Parish,

Diocese of Laoag will hold a seminar-workshop on the

''Restoration and Preservation of Paoay Church,'' May 25-28, in

Paoay, Ilocos Norte.



The Paoay church is one of four Philippine churches included in

the Unesco World Heritage List. Having been declared a World

Heritage Site, measures must be taken for the church's

restoration and preservation.



The seminar-workshop will consist of two parts. Part one is a

seminar with lectures to be given by authorities on the various

aspects of conservation of historic architecture and patrimony.

Part two will be a guided tour of selected sites including the

churches of Paoay, San Nicolas, Dingras, Sarrat and Bacarra.



Among the lecturers are NCCA Subcommission on Cultural

Heritage commissioner and architect Augusto F. Villalon, Fr.

Rodrigo Perez of San Beda University, Angel Bautista and

Mauro Alvarez of the National Museum, Edgardomar Castro of

the UST College of Architecture and Fine Arts, architect

Reynaldo Innovero of the National Historical Institute and

Paoay Church Restoration project director and architect Rene

Luis Mata.



The seminar-workshop is supported by Ilocos Norte Gov.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Irene Marcos-Araneta, head of the

Ilocos Provincial Tourism Council.

FASHION SHOW AWARDS. The Smirnoff Mule Fashion

Awards Series, titled ''Wind,'' will be held at the Siete Pecados at

Westin Philippine Plaza on May 22 at 10 p.m.



Mule fashion contenders, including Angelito Dura, Angel

Estera, Eric Ra?ada-Garcia, John Guarnes, Ignacio Loyola, Jean

Pardo, Alex Medina Pigao and Randall Solomon will compete for

the chance to represent the Philippines at the forthcoming

Smirnoff International Fashion Awards, the hottest platform for

young student design in 67 countries.



DRAMA. Gantimpala Theater Foundation will have a veritable

Theater Festival at the Music Museum, Virra Mall, Greenhills on

May 29 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. when the participants of the

Summer Drama Workshop mounts the boards for their

culminating activities.



Children's Theater will perform the double bill of ''Pilandok at

ang Mahiwagang Manok'' and ''Tiktipaklong'' by Rene

Villanueva as directed by Perry Dizon at 10 a.m. Both children's

plays are delightful tales full of moral values for kids.



The Acting classes will perform four one-act plays at 1 p.m. of

May 29: ''Ca?ao'' by Amador Daguio as translated by Angie

Panogan from the ''Wedding Dance,'' a tragedy spawned by the

fertility law of an Igorot village; ''The Love of Virgil and Cely'' by

Lazaro Espinosa as arranged for Chamber Theater by Prof. Nick

Agudo--a funny romantic tale about the old folk custom of

arranged marriage; ''Mir-I-Nisa'' by Jose Garcia Villa--a love story

set in the islands of the south about the sea, its pearls and its

women. The fourth play is the riotous ''Bakit Babae ang

Naghuhugas ng Pinggan'' by Filomena Colendrino as arranged

by Prof. Nick Agudo. Angie Panogan directs with Ruby

Solmerano for ''Mir-I-Nisa.''



With Tony Espejo as workshop director, this Gantimpala

Theater Festival caps six weeks of intensive training for

Children's Theater and Acting classes at Uniwide Metromall and

LIBRARIAN SEMINAR. The Philippine Association of

Teachers of Library Science (PATLS) will celebrate its 35th

anniversary on May 20 at the University of Sto. Tomas Central

Library, Conference Hall at 4-6 p.m. with the theme ''PATLS at 35

Years: The Emerging Challenges in the Library Profession for

the Next Millennium.''



The PATLS board invites all its members to attend.



PROGRAMS FOR MOTHERS AND MEDITATION. The

Brahma Kumaris, a United Nations-affiliated NGO, will hold an

afternoon of sharing, insights, performing arts and meditation

on May 22, 4-6 p.m. On May 25, there will be an introduction to

raja yoga meditation at 6:30-8:30 p.m. which helps the soul to
