In line with the Muntinlupa city governments aim of strengthening the
tourism drive in the city, Mayor Fresnedi together with the members of
the City Council led by Mario Bulay, Jr. have passed on ordinance for
the creation of the Tourism Code of Muntinlupa.
Fresnedi said the ordinance, which was authored by Councilor Bulay,
committee on tourism, culture, and foreign relations head, aims to promote
tourism in the area by attracting foreign and local tourists to visit the city. The
code is expected to increase the revenues and improve the economic status
of the city by encouraging the tourists to establish different kinds of
businesses in the said locality.
Bulay said so far only four cities have their own tourism code, they are Metro
Manila, Paranaque, Quezon City and Manila.
He said two types of establishments are covered by the ordinance the
tourism-related and tourism-oriented types of businesses.
Tourism-oriented establishments includes hotels, travel agencies, tour
services, ticketing office, apartels, inns, motels, resorts, pension houses,
special interest resorts and the like, while tourism-related businesses include
restaurants, supermarkets, departments stores, museums, sports and
recreational facilities, cocktail lounges, bars, convenience stores, and more.
City Cultural Officer James Arriola said the said establishments will be
needing accreditation from City Cultural and Tourism Development Office or
business permit from the Business Permit and License Office. This aims to
regulate and control the establishment of businesses in the city thereby
preserve their prevent unlicensed entities from executing illegal business in the
area.
Arriola also said the city government also plans to produce directories
containing the different establishments and their location in the area called the
city tour guide brochure. The brochure will be distributed to the tourists
visiting the country.
Meanwhile various businessmen asked the administration if is possible to
secure stickers and mini-posters promoting their establisments like what is
being given by the Department of Tourism. The advertising paraphernalia will
be placed in strategic areas in the city.
