Baguio Country Club undergoes major facelift

The Baguio Country Club (BCC) has started an extensive renovation as part of

its continuing campaign to improve its facilities and services for its members.

Atty. Potenciano Ilusorio, the clubs long-time president, said the renovation is aimed

at making BCC the best country club not only in the Philippines, but also in the

Asia-Pacific region.

To realize this goal, BCC has added a covered tennis court to complement the clubs

other world-class facilities. The court, now nearing completion, can be converted into

a multi-purpose hall for big parties and conventions.

BCC has also put up a swimming pool that includes a lap pool, kiddie pool and spa with

a picturesque view of the valley. Landscaping of the area is also forthcoming.

Renovation of the clubs Fitness Center is now in full swing to meet the members

fitness requirements. A Japanese restaurant where members can dine after a round of

golf or other recreational activities is now in the final stages of construction.

These facilities complement BCCs other sports and recreational facilities which include

automated bowling alleys, tennis court, table tennis, darts, billiards, a reading room

that also serves as a library, card room, gift shop, pro-shop, beauty parlor and a

clinic. BCC also has a gasoline pump house within its premises which serves unleaded

fuel.

Developments in the golf course are also in its finishing stages and will be completed

before the 50th Fil-Am Golf Tournament to be held on Dec. 5-11 this year. Three

lagoons that would fully irrigate the course all year round are now also nearing

completion.

To further improve its services, construction of a utility structure has also begun. This

will house the laundry, drivers quarters, employes locker rooms and maintenance and

ground storage facilities.

The club has hired the services of top architect Bobby Maqosa to design BCCs

masterplan as a guide in its renovation projects and to complete the facilities.

BCC is one of the oldest membership clubs in the country. It was established in 1905,

shortly after the first wagon drove over the newly-completed Kennon Road. It used to

be a symbol of American colonial rule in the country, being then the exclusive

playground of elite, vacationing Americans.

By the middle of the century, however, BCC had metamorphosed into an association

with a totally Filipino imprint through the efforts of Justice Roman Ozaeta and Atty.

Ilusorio. Ozaeta was the clubs president from 1957 up to his demise in 1972. Ilusorio

took over the clubs presidency in 1972 to the present.

Under Ilusorios leadership, BCC has grown into an important institution that has

consistently served its growing list of members and guests with world-class services.
