MICROTEL Inns & Suites (Pilipinas)
Inc., the country's master franchise
holder of the United States-based
Microtel chain of world-class economy
hotels, will develop a 50-room hotel in Calapan, Oriental
Mindoro for the RGV Group of Companies headed by real estate
developer Rodolfo G. Valencia.
Under the agreement, the franchisee RGV Group's Filipiniana
Resorts Development Corp. will build the Microtel Inn & Suites
on a hilltop, where it will be the pioneer structure in
Neo-Calapan, a commercial center that the RGV Group is
developing.
The hotel is expected to be ready for occupancy by November
2000, in time for the 50th anniversary of Calapan. Paramount
Property Management Co. of the Phinma Group will manage the
hotel.
Microtel plans to develop several properties in commercial and
industrial centers and major cities. The Microtel hotel chain is
internationally known for giving value-conscious business and
leisure travelers most of the services of first-class hotels at rates
comparable to those of independent hotels.
Microtel is the fastest growing US hotel chain in its category,
with about 160 hotels operating in the United States and more
than 400 being developed worldwide.
Microtel's local president and CEO Jose Mari Del Rosario said
the chain has identified several sites in different regions of the
country and has begun the development with franchise holders
and partners. At the same time, Microtel is seeking franchisees
to develop hotel properties.
''Without sacrificing product quality, Microtel has the lowest
development cost in the economy segment of the world's
lodging industry,'' Del Rosario said. He added that Microtel has
been ranked as the top budget hotel brand in the Uniteed States
in terms of ''overall price/value relation'' and ''physical
appearance'' in the 1999 top US hotel chain survey of Business
Travel News magazine. It is also the top budget hotel in the
US-based Entrepreneur magazine's sixth annual ''Business
Travel Awards'' for products that make the business travel
experience easier and less costly.
