Mardicas of Ternate to mark 337th year

In celebration of the new millennium, the Madricas of Ternate will

commemorate the 337 years foundation of the municipality from

Dec. 16-Jan. 7. This is also in conjunction with the celebration of

the town fiesta on Jan. 5-6. The month-long festivity will be

highlighted with the following activities: from Dec. 16-24  staging

of the history of Ternate by series during the dawn mass

simultaneous with the exhibit of relics and cultural artifacts; Dec.

30  presentation of the same play at the towns plaza; Dec. 31 

reenactment of the coming of the seven Mardicas families (the

Nigozas, the Niqo francos, the de Leons, the Ramoses, the

Esteibars the Pereiras, and the de la Cruzes) to be held at the

actual site called Galala, the annual bath of the Holy Image of

Santo Nino, showing of old photographs about Ternate and its

inhabitants via a big screen, and the display of giant fireworks at

the churchyard; holding of cultural night where the original

customs and traditions of the town like Cumparsa, Lowa, Lipat,

Harana, and the popular war dance called Sakaleli will be

presented; Jan. 2  coronation of Miss Santo Niqo; Jan. 30  civic

parade of Miss Santo Niqo; Jan. 4  Fiesta Ballroom and Singing

Contest exclusively for Ternateqos; Jan. 5  Karakol and Mutya ng

Ternate Beauty Pageant sponsored by Samahang Kayumanggi;

Jan. 6  another Karakol, grand processions, and Musical

Jamboree through the efforts of Mayor Conrado C. Lindo; and Jan.

7  Grand Awit contest sponsorred also by Samahang

Kayumanggi for professional and amateur singers.



The celebration with the theme Ternate nah dentro de tres cientos

ano y nah di llega millenion, is under the sponsorship of the Santo

Niqo Parish Council headed by Rev. Fr. Sergio Leonardo Jr. and
