Asiana gets ready for millennium bug

Asiana Airlines (OZ) reassured domestic and international

travelers of the airlines Y2K compliance with the release of

a comprehensive year 2000 report. Among the reports

highlights are how the airline had determined Y2K measures

as early as 1996 and spent over US$4.8 million from 1998-99

to implement the program.

By taking these initiatives, Asiana is able to reassure customers,

vendors, partners and employes that they will be protected from

any Y2K-related problems as the date changes to the millennium,

said Asiana Airlines president and CEO Sam-Koo Park.

Asiana Airlines was among the participants in South Koreas Task

Force on Y2K, sponsored by the Ministry of Communication and

Transportation. The airline has reported 100 percent compliance for

hardware, software and non-information technology aspects of

operators, one of the first carriers in the region to do so.

In January, Asiana completed Y2K compliance for reservation and

transportation of cargo and passenger operations.

We have also required Y2K compliance among our supply

partners, most especially Boeing, Allied Signal Aerospace and

Sundstrand, said Asiana Airlines regional manager You Jung

Park. Even our airport operations have been evaluated for

compliance. But we remain vigilant in monitoring and maintaining

Y2K safety measures.

Asiana has joined the International Air Transport Associations

(IATA) Year 2000 Project and has regularly participated in regional

workshops on the issue.

Despite travel concerns for the new millennium, Asiana continues

to gear up for heightened regional and worldwide travel. The airline

hopes to be a major player in the 2001 Visit Korea Year

celebrations.
