LTO intensifies drive vs fixers, scalawags

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) yesterday

intensified its campaign to get rid of fixers and

scalawags, whose reported activities continue to

demean the efforts of LTO top brass in cleansing the

dearth from LTO's central and regional offices.

Transportation Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief lawyer

Benjamin C. Calima ordered the mandatory use and

display of LTO identification cards (IDs) for all personnel

of the agency, as well as the mandatory display of

visitor’s IDs for all visitors or members of the transacting

public.

“This is one way of determining who are the legitimate

personnel, identifying them from “non-LTO people, some

of whom, unfortunately are fixers”, said Calima in an

interview.

Aside from this, “all units or officers, are required to place

a notice right at their doors and windows, listing the

names and pictures of their personnel, with whom, the

transacting public must deal with”, Calima pointed out.

Likewise, notices, usually in billboards, carrying big, bold

words warnings to the public saying: “Deal only with LTO

personnel” are now placed at LTO central, regional and

district offices.

At the same time, Calima appealed to the public to be

vigilant and courageous to report irregularities of LTO

personnel, and unscrupulous persons or groups

committing graft and corrupt practices in the registration

of vehicles, issuance of drivers’ licenses and other

matters related to land transportation industry.

The LTO is coordinating with the Land Transportation

Franchising Regulatory Board headed by director Dante

Lantin. “Kaya, dito ay walang lusot ang gustong

magpalusot. Ang kailangan natin ay ang

pakikipagtulungan ng publiko upang tuluyang masugpo

ang kalokohan ng mga taong may illegal transaction”, said

Calima.
