People who don’t have the time and means to see the action at the
forthcoming Sydney Olympics on Sept. 15 and capture the sights of Australia
have an equally exciting alternative.
The Heritage Hotel Manila will be bringing guests on a journey to Australia during its
Australian Festival from Sept. 16 to Oct. 1. Minus the victories and defeats of the
Olympics Games, guests will have the chance to taste the best of Australian cuisine
which is a fusion of Continental and Asian food; and take a glimpse of Australian
couture from the collections of Australian designer Alex Perry and Speedo sportswear.
At the festival dubbed “Discover Delicacies and Designs from Down Under,” guests can
partake of a wide buffet selection of authentic Australian dishes at the Restaurant
Riviera for lunch or dinner. Favorites include Emu Shish Kebab with Harlequin Relish,
Barramundi Fillet in Broth with Julienne vegetables, Queensland Blue Pumpkin Salad,
Smoked Tasmanian Salmon and Crabmeat Roulade with Alfalfa Sprouts, Wattleseed
Pavlova, Fresh Tasmanian Salmon and Pasta Salad, and Roasted Rack of Lamb with
Spinach, Dried Bush Tomatoes and Feta Cheese. Guests can also opt to have dinner
by the pool and enjoy barbeques and roasted calf.
A nightly fashion show featuring Speedo sportswear and the collections of Australia’s
leading eveningwear designer Alexander Perry also comes alive to add excitement to
the festival at the Restaurant Riviera.
The Kangaroo Ball at L’Opera Lounge awaits ballroom dancing enthusiasts and even
those that just want to have a good time on Sept. 20 as Australian music takes
centerstage. Then, they can take a break and sample the delicacies at the pica-pica
buffet.
The Australian Festival, which is organized together with the Australian Tourist
Commission and Singapore Airlines, doesn’t stop after these happenings as a lucky
patron will get a chance to win a roundtrip raffle ticket to Sydney or Perth, Australia
and go on a real journey to the smallest continent and the biggest island in the world.
I, along with other journalists were treated to a preview of the Australian Festival at
the Heritage recently. As always, the hotel was true to its tradition on authenticity
when it comes to holding food and fashion festivals. They bring to Manila the best
original culinary and fashion artists of the featured country. This time, the hotel’s
executive chef teamed up with an Australian guest chef for the preparation of the
food festival.
After going on a gastronomic journey at the festival, one can be rest assured that he
does not have to fly to Australia to taste its delicacies. He can find it here.
