The Fairways and Bluewater Resort Golf and Country Club will be constructing
more tourism facilities on Boracay Island.
DOT Sec. Gemma Cruz Araneta said this is a welcome news considering that Boracay
is one of the major tourist destinations of the country and is one of the DOT’s flagship
projects.
Boracay receives an average of 15,000 tourists a month during peak season from
November to May and approximately 6,000 tourists monthly on lean season from June
to October.
Noel “Toti” Cariño, chairman of the Fairways said priorities will be the Fiesta Town
Center and two five-star hotels on the beach front areas.
Cariño said that the Fiesta Town Center will be built on a 4.4-hectare lot and will
serve as a central activity complex, providing indoor and outdoor recreational
pastimes, entertainment and guest support services.
Its facilities will include condotels, basketball courts, bowling and tennis, cascade
pools, specialty shops, a lounge theater, a children’s play port, bars and a fine-dining
restaurant, a dance court, a church and a clinic.
The 18-hole course Fairway and Bluewater Resort Golf and Country Club, dubbed
“Golfing Jewel of the Pacific,” is the resort’s own crown jewel. Well-known designer
Graham Marsh designed it.
Several golf tournaments have been played here, and one of these is the Johnny
Walker Super Tour where Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, Ian Woosnam, Jesper Parnevik,
Boonchu Ruangkit, Maan Nasim and Cassius Cases played.
The front line features water highlights created by “Water Magic” expert Living
Waters, USA. These include waterfalls, creeks, lakes, lagoons and streams.
Also completed is the golf halfway house named “Pirates Den.” The facilities are a fine
dining restaurant and bar, function rooms, a pro shop, terrace, men’s and women’s
lounge, locker and wash rooms, game room with bar, veranda and bar lounge.
As this developed, the Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) and Fil-Estate Development Corp. have
offered separately to put up tourist accommodations and posts facilities in the area
totalling R2.3 billion.
The proposed projects would involve the establishment of resort hotels, townhomes, a
clubhouse, and an 18-hole golf course, among others.
The project would be constructed in an underdeveloped portion of Boracay so as not
to choke the island resort. ALI and Fil-Estate agreed to build their own water supply
systems.
DOT said the development is still within the capacity of the island and the
requirements of the DENR.
It will be recalled that the DOT under former Tourism Sec. Vicente Carlos has allotted
the amount of R2.920 million for the implementation of the Boracay service
infrastructure programs component of the master development plan for the island.
