Scooting around Guam

Visitors to Guam now have a very novel alternative to taking the bus or hiring a car to go shopping and sightseeing. ScootCars Guam has set up shop in downtown Tumon, just opposite SandCastle, and are renting out fun three-wheeled machines by the hour. Made in France and fully licensed by the FAA, ScootCars are a compact two-seater vehicle powered by a tiny 49cc engine made of lightweight polycarbon fiber and a tubular steel shell.

Strap yourself in and take off for a low riding run around the major sights of Tumon and Hagatña. A ScootCar will cruise at 25-30 mph, “stop on a dime’’ and comes equipped with head and tailights, turning indicators, a preppy little horn, lockable luggage compartment and are turned out in bright happy colors with black detailing.

Parking problems disappear and the open cockpit puts you in touch and up close with your scenic surroundings.

ScootCars have been taking the international resort scene by storm. They can be found scooting around Tahiti, Singapore, San Francisco, Florida, Mexico, New Caledonia, the Cook Islands and from Cairns to the Gold Coast in Australia.

They are proving to be just as popular on Guam and are being put to some very novel uses. Wedding parties are hiring them as outriders to the wedding limousine for the bridal party, television crews are using them and ScootCars Guam are running drive-yourself convoy tours for visitors who like to be shown around.

For more information on ScootCar Guam visit the Guam Visitors Bureau’s website http://www.visitguam.org.
