Boracay must-dos and must-haves

SUN and fun don't quite capture the attraction of

what some people consider as paradise: Boracay.

The Department of Tourism’s brochure may boast of

the "thousands of sun-worshippers (who) flock to

the island, " but there are more things to do just lie on the powder-white sand

baking under the hot sun. In fact, during our stay, sleeping was our last

priority…we simply didn’t want to miss a moment in paradise!

But alas, time caught up with us--as it will catch up with you, too, when you

visit the island. That’s why when you’re in Boracay, lounging around on the

beach the entire day isn’t acceptable. Bars, markets, parties and aqua sports

are begging to be tried out, and who would say no to exotic and delish dishes

only served at the other side of the beach?

We asked a bunch of Boracay babes to complete this sentence: "Never leave

Boracay without…," to find out what’s on top of their must-do and

must-have lists. You may want to add ‘em to yours.

"The beach. Also, jet skiing." -- Diego, 18, Spain

"A bikini tan, so you can say you came from Boracay!" -- Liza, 23

"A good tan and a good sarong. That’s proof you’ve been to Boracay. The

best place to buy sarongs is at the talipapa." -- Ginger, 22

"Going on the banana boat. I have ridden it, and it was an extraordinary

experience. And no, I didn’t fall!" --- Bon, 21

"Water-skiing and boating. Because it’s really, really fun." -- Paula, 21

"Water-skiing because it’s fun and also because it’s dangerous." -- Inyego, 15

"Having fun…and meeting a new girlfriend." -- Dennis, 24

"Trying out the banana boat. We rode it once and fell off twice." -- Mike, 23

"Mango shake. It’s sarap, very fresh." -- Lino, 23

"A sunburn! I want to let everyone know I went to Boracay!" -- Irene, 19

"Lying down on the sand with someone interesting and talking about the stars.

It’s the bomb!" -- GP

"A sublime personal experience. Also, diving. Well, you should fulfill your

dreams here…I mean, it’s paradise!" -- David, 25

"Hanging out in Bom Bom. It’s a cool place, the sounds are nice, and the

music’s different." -- Pam, 19

"Going to Bom Bom and just chill." -- Cindy, 20

"Sailing, because my friends met some people and they went sailing for free.

And I wanna go also!" -- Angel, 19

"Doing the 15 shots over at Moondogs. I already did it. People should try it."

-- Marc, 19

"A sunburn, a nice tan, to remember your vacation." -- JayJ, 21

"White sand in your pocket." -- Marian, 19

"Souvenirs. I haven’t gotten any yet, but I’ll probably get a shirt." -- Alfonso, 19

"A sunburn, for remembrance." -- Paula, 19

"Getting high. It’s the right environment to get high, not like in the city.

There’s a certain freedom to it. And of course, also, you have to meet

people." -- June, 22

"Suntan. And get laid." -- Mos, 25

"Going to the beach parties, which are cool, unlike in Manila." -- Roy, 23

"The peaceful relaxing state of mind you develop from the island. It will help

you survive through stressful times until your next vacation!" -- Chinggay

"A massage while drinking Jonah’s melon shake, and enjoying the sunset." --

Celeste, 19

"3 things: trying the litson manok, mango crepe, and banana shake!" --

Teenav, 25

"Without getting a henna or tattoo at Noel’s tattoo studio in Talipapa, a

banana melon shake at Jonah’s, a coconut killer at Coconut Killers, and a

massage!" -- Angela, 19
