When a group of photo-enthusiasts lugged their cameras and backpacked for a momentary immersion into the wonders of Banaue, Ifugao, they got a glimpse of a charming culture.

The group was composed of participants of the Travel Photo Workshop held May 3-7. It was organized and led by George Tapan, the country’s “Master” in travel photography, together with Sonny Yabao, recognized as “Dean” of black and white photography.

The workshop, which is a first for Tapan, included extensive hands-on training in colored landscape photography. His objective was to share his “secrets” and techniques gleaned from many years of experience.

The simplicity of Ifugao community life provided color and interesting subjects against the stunning rice terraces as backdrop for the participants’ works.

The workshop participants discovered the grandeur of being in the midst of layered plantations, the challenge of negotiating a long trek by foot and the absence of modernity are the highlights of their experience.
