IN consonance with the government's call to support domestic tourism, the Federation of Provincial Press Clubs of the Philippines (FPPCP) is holding the biggest media gathering in the country.

With the theme "The Role of Media in Promoting the Philippines as One Big Hotel," press club officers, publishers, editors, commentators, government information officers, campus writers, and other media personalities are attending the summit that will end on December 7, 2001.

The summit showcases the beauty of the Boracay island in Malay, Aklan, to the guests and participants coming from various sectors, both private and public, that play important roles in the promotion of Philippine tourism.

One of the summit's highlights is a "Symposium in Promoting Philippine Tourism and the Role of the Private Sector in Financing Tourism Development in the Country."

As the country's tourism business is affected by the economic crisis, collaborative efforts among the various sectors of Philippine society is being seriously undertaken to shield it from further damage. The important roles and contributions given by the FPPCP in leading the media to support the government in the promotion of Philippine tourism are especially noteworthy.

Such undertaking will hopefully lead the nation in fighting the adverse effects of the economic crisis through cooperative efforts.

We congratulate the organizers and participants of the National Media Summit and wish them success.
