The Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) recently hosted its first-ever-mini-olympics, inviting members of the travel sector to stretch their limbs, test their strength and get into the spirit of fun, friendship and camaraderie.

Officers and staff of leading travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, hotels and resorts, transportation companies came marching in their teams to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, all geared up to participate in the various sports activities that the PTAA Sports and Fellowship committee members had in store.

PTAA president Ricky Ordoñez together with VP-Admin Annette Feliciano and Sports and Fellowship Committee chairman Clarence Aytona led the opening ceremonies and welcomed teams from Air Philippines, Philippine Airlines, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, Northwest Airlines, Philtranco, Duty Free, Japan Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Saudi Air, Titan Intl., Corp. and KLM.

The teams had a fun day displaying their athletic prowess, working together and competing with each other in the field games. The dynamic duo of Duty Free and JAL was declared “King of the Hoops” posting the highest points in the basketball category and also proved their solidarity in the Tug-of-War, while Northwest Airlines flew high over the nets bagging the top spot in the Volleyball competition.

The Philippine Airlines team showed everyone the value of teamwork and cooperation, winning the Mixed Medley Relay, while the joint efforts of Thai Airways and Lufthansa won them the champion trophy in the Golf Putting category. Philtranco, scoring high in four sports events namely the Long Jump, the Obstacle Course, Billiards and Golf Pitching, became the undefeated over-all champion, with the Northwest and THAI/Lufthansa teams close behind.

Sponsored by Air Philippines, Philippine Airlines, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, Northwest Airlines, Philtranco, Duty Free, Japan Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Saudi Air, Titan Intl. Corp. and KLM, PTAA’s MiniOlympics aims to enhance camaraderie among their members as they work hand-in-hand in overcoming the many hurdles currently faced by the travel industry.
