Family and friends from all over the globe have come together to enjoy the Christmas and New Year festivities. After the busy holidays, with flights full to capacity, airline travel can be most hectic and stressful. To help beat the anxiety and make the start of your journey less worrisome and frantic, here are useful travel tips from Northwest Airlines:

• Know your permitted baggage allowance and pack wisely. Excess baggage can cause delay in the check-in process and add unnecessary expense.

• Each passenger is allowed one carry-on. This may be a purse, a laptop, reading materials, and infant food for consumption during a flight. Your carry- on must fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. Otherwise, you will be asked to check in the item.

• With the events of September 11, certain items are not allowed on board the aircraft. Please refrain from bringing lighters, matches, sharp objects such as razors, knives of any length, box cutters, scissors, nailclippers, metal nail files, cutlery, ice picks, corkscrews, baseball bats, golf clubs, pool cues, ski poles, hockey sticks, and the like. Such items will be confiscated prior to boarding.

• Please remember to check if you have all pertinent travel documents prior to leaving for the airport. Make sure that visas and passports are intact and in good shape as these cause problems with immigration and security.

• It is recommended that passengers check-in at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure time. Increased security measures to ensure the safety of your flight and well-being have been established at the airport, and the check-in process may take more time than usual. Passengers are asked for their understanding and cooperation during the entire process.

• Dress comfortably and warmly for your trip and drink lots of water to avoid dehydration.

• Maintain your sense of awareness and ensure that all your luggage and possessions are with you at all times.

• Pay attention to announcements so that you don’t miss your flight. Be at your designated gate area at least one hour before departure in Manila, as additional security screening will be conducted at the gate area. Please have your boarding pass and passport available at the gate.

• To ensure your flight departs on a timely manner, do not wait at the last minute to board the aircraft.

• Find your assigned seat, relax and enjoy the rest of your flight.
