| GMA declares 2002 as ‘Year of Eco-tourism and Beach Tourism’ |

AGUINALDO, Ifugao – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently declared 2002 as a Year of Eco-Tourism and Beach Tourism.
Speaking before the townsfolk at the elementary school here, the President said Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon, who was with her, has many plans designed to turn Ifugao into a major tourism destination.
She said the national government is also planning on building an airfield in the town to entice city residents to come to the Ifugao mountains in helicopters and small planes.
She also noted major renovations planned for the Philippine Tourism Authority hotels in the province.
She stressed that tourism will be one of the major growth sectors for Filipinos in the 21st century. The other is information and communciatiosn technology.
