Philippine Airlines has joined hands with the Department of Tourism (DoT) to expand tourist inflows to the country via the innovative “Tourism Volunteer 12” program of the DoT.

PAL has donated air tickets to various destinations to serve as raffle prizes in the quarterly draws of the program.

Recently, seven tourism volunteers were awarded PAL tickets during the first raffle draw presided over by Tourism Secretary Richard J. Gordon.

These volunteers have already generated a total of 66 foreign visitor arrivals in the nine months that the program has been in place.

The seven winners are: Josephine Suazo, who resides in Korea, with 25 foreign guests; Ferdie Bagsic of the U.S., 9 guests; Marina Cuevas of Hong Kong, 8 guests; Catherine Cabasal of Taiwan, 7 guests; Maria Luz Shimizu of Japan, 7 guests; Jonathan Cortes of Singapore, 6 guests; and Purisa Plaras of Thailand, 4 guests.

The “Volunteer 12” program is an incentive-based scheme that aims to harness the power of over 7 million ethnic Filipinos living overseas by mobilizing them as “tourism volunteers” to promote tourism to their mother country.

Each volunteer is asked to convince at least one foreign guest per month (or 12 guests in a year) in his country of residence to visit the Philippines.

PAL was among the first companies to support the program when it was launched in the third quarter of 2001.

“This is not surprising since the national flag carrier has always been a strong partner in promoting and developing tourism to the Philippines,” said Sec. Gordon.
