Dubbed as “NP EXPO 2002,” this daring new adventure of the North Philippines Tourism Council, Inc. will offer a wide spectrum of travel, trade, industry and agriculture consumer exhibits, destination promotion and special entertainment shows.

Buyers and consumers are expected to come from the four member regions namely, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, Central Luzon and CAR. Invitations are being sent out also to the private and business sectors of adjoining regions and the NCR, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Chairperson Ramona Lopez-Ty says: “This is NPTC’s response to the challenge to forge closer unity among the 22 provinces and 19 cities of the North through intra-regional packages to promote Northern Philippines as a multi-faceted destination, a major trade, industry and investment haven as well as a food production center whose potentials are still much unexplored and undeveloped.” It is doing business right where the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, soon-to-be the international gateway north of Manila, is located.

The NP Expo 2002 will bring to life the slogan of the Department of Tourism: “More than the Usual.” This will be achieved the natural setting of the Ancient Village which will showcase the best attributes of the Cordilleras and Cagayan Valley Region. On the other hand, the magnificence of Colonial Plaza will highlight the Spanish influence on the architecture, culture and history of the Ilocos Region and Central Luzon.

Market encounter for business and investment promotion will be located at the spacious and air-conditioned Trade Exhibit Halls A and B. Adding to this envisioned “one of a kind” travel and trade show will be the Centennial Plaza and Centennial Promenade that will serve as a food court with café patios, rest areas and for leisure walks. Events such as the “Illusione” and other shows will be featured at the Giant Freedom Ring Amphitheater with expected audiences of 11,000 per show. The 14-hectare Expo Pilipino parking can accommodate and secure 4,000 vehicles at any one time.

Being a private sector initiative and a collaborative effort, the organizers have already enjoined multi-sectoral commitment. With the growing support of other key government offices and the North Philippines Business Council, the pioneering NP Expo is the first step towards achieving the targets of the biggest promotional event of the new millennium: “Visit Philippines Year” in 2003.
