FROM SEPT. 7 TO OCT. 1

Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) will stage another month-long series of events topped by the 14th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest on Sept. 7 to Oct. 1, featuring 10 of the world’s best pyrotechnic groups from various countries.

To be held along the beautiful Nam Van lakes with the newly-opened Macau Tower as backdrop, the kaleidoscopic fiesta jibes with China’s Mid-Autumn Festival and National Holiday.

The competing groups will come from the Philippines (Hannah Corp.), France (Evenment Ciel), China (Hunan Jxiu Fireworks Mfg. & Display Co.), Japan (Morikami Enka Kogyosho, Inc.), Germany (Nico Lunig Event GmbH), Australia (Global Pyrotechnics), Korea (Hanwha Corp.), Taiwan (Sy-Yuan Fireworks), Portugal (Pyrofel-Pyrotecnia Co. Lda), and Thailand (Pacific Pyro Co. Ltd).

Organized by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) with the Macau Kai Fong Association, the fireworks contest will give the winner US$6,000 with trophy and certificate. The first and second runners-up will be awarded with US$3,000 and US$1,800 with trophies and certificates, respectively.

As added come-ons to delight both local and foreign tourists from all over, the MGTO enlisted Hong Kong’s Harley Owners Group to mount the Harley Davidson Parade as opening salvo. A revved up music and dance gala will also be held on Sept. 27- 29 at the Macau Tower’s outdoor plaza.

Top restaurants at the Macau Tower will throw a gastronomic party for the event by whipping up special cuisines to make the fireworks exhibition more exciting. Other fun and interactive shows will also be staged to complement the event.

To make this year’s Fireworks event more significant, photo and drawing contests will be held back-to-back and big prizes await the winners.

Macau’s night skies will blaze with each team setting-off fireworks for 18 minutes on barges set-up along the coast of Nam Van lakes, somewhat highlighting the territory’s latest infrastructure at the background — the Macau Tower.
