CLARK FIELD, Pampanga (PNA) – You don’t have to be a pilot to discover many destinations. But you can be a passenger on board your “personal airline.”

This is the feeling you get once you experience flying with Southeast Asian Airlines (Seair). It is topped with a sense of safety, friendliness and comfort.

For 40 minutes flying time from Manila to Clark Field, we — journalists invited by Seair experienced that. We were accompanied by Glenn Lamela, Marketing manager; Sheila Cabi-ao, International Sales manager; Iren Dornier, Seair chairman who was the pilot; and Nikos Gitsis, director as co-pilot at that time. Capt. Joseph Bustamante, Seair’s chief pilot was also with us.

On board the LET 410, when we were in the area of Mt. Pinatubo, we were anticipating to see the beauty underneath us but the area was clouded so were not able to see the beauty of Mt. Pinatubo.

Gitsis, said the airline is presently flying to 22 destinations – from the popular honeymooners’ hideaways in Palawan to beach lovers’ haven in Boracay and even to adventure-filled Zamboanga, Jolo and Tawi-Tawi. It flies to the best destinations in the Philippines, among them, Busuanga, Coron, El Nido, Sandoval, Taytay, Puerto Princesa, Boracay/Caticlan, Cebu and Siargao.

Just recently, Seair has been appointed as one of the carriers to serve the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines/East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region. The airline will start flying from Zamboanga City to BIMP destinations before the end of the year. Being eyed are Manado in Malaysia; Bali in Indonesia and Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei.

“We are able to open up tourism in many small places. Our destinations are not trunk line routes such as Manila-Cebu or Manila-Davao and vice versa,” Gitsis said.

He added, “Today, frequent flyers of Seair consider us their personal airline. They know the pilots, they know the staff, they know us. They called us directly when they have problems.”

The airline company has tied up with hotel and resort partners such as Fridays, Lorenzo Resorts, Paradise Bay, Divelink, Pansukian Tropical Resort, El Nido, Club Noah and Club Paradise to extend its VIP brand of hospitality.

One of the airlines main strength is its ability to offer more flights to more destinations in the Philippines than any other domestic airline because it can land in small strips, even fields among others. Flying three times a day to Boracay, Seair makes a gateway vacation to this island paradise possible. “Right now, there is a roundtrip promo fare of p4,800,” Gitsis said.

Gitsis added that for those planning a vacation to Palawan, Seair provides daily flights to Busuanga (p4,600 roundtrip) and Rodriguez (Sandoval-R8,800 roundtrip), as well as Monday and Friday flights to El Nido (p8,000 roundtrip).

And if you want to do some Palawan island-hopping and the inconvenience of lengthy land transfers, Seair even offers inter-island routes for Busuanga, Rodriguez (Sandoval), El Nido, Puerto Princesa and Cuyo. (To be concluded)
