Silang Town Fiesta marks 418 years

Silang, Cavite will celebrate its 418th year as a parish dedicated to Our Lady of Candelaria on Feb. 1-3.

Known for her many miracles, Our Lady of Candelaria will be brought to 16 barangays from Jan. 23-31. Various civic and religious organizations and NGOs, together with the municipal and barangay officials, will implement the “Dalaw sa Barangay ng Birhen ng Candelaria”. Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at the town plaza.

Our Lady of Candelaria is the title given to the Virgin Mary carrying Jesus, the Light of the World, in her womb. Bishop Manuel Sobreviñas will officiate a Concelebrated Mass on its feast day on Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m.

The “altares” Mass will be held on Feb. 3 at 7 a.m. followed by a High Mass to be officiated by Imus Bishop Chito Tagle at 9:30 a.m. and the

traditional “Karakol” at 1 p.m.

Silang Mayor Ruben Madlansacay heads the fiesta committee, which is now preparing an efficient traffic system. The people of Silang are inviting all devotees to the fiesta, and to watch the biggest band parade composed of around 23 bands on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
