DoT ushers in Year of the Goat with ‘Fiesta Tsinoy’ in Intramuros

The Department of Tourism (DoT) and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) celebrate the “Year of the Goat” with a festivity in Intramuros entitled “Fiesta Tsinoy”.













The said event, which will be held at the Baluarte Plano Luneta de Sta. Isabel in Intramuros, will coincide with today’s launching of the Visit Philippines 2003 “Best of the Regions”.





Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon and FFCCCII president John Ng will welcome foreign tourists and media from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore who will join in the celebration.





The “Fiesta Tsinoy” will





showcase cultural performances by Chinese Jiang Su Overseas Troupe of Artists. The group, composed of more than 100 performers aged 8-15 years old, will have several presentations including an opera show, martial arts exhibition, acrobatics and Chinese musical instruments ensemble.





Among the other highlights of the event are: “Concert Night at the Old Walls”; “Putok Pinoy”, a fireworks display





; and the magic show of 27-year-old Wang Changin, the world’s tallest living man from Hunan province in China, towering at 8 ft. 2 inches.





There will also be simultaneous Chinese New Year celebrations all over the country.





Filipino-Chinese in Manila will usher in the Chinese New Year with parades and Chinese cultural performances in Binondo. Participating establishments in Binondo will hol





d a Chinatown Food Festival until tomorrow while film showing, puppet show and photo exhibits at the Kaisa Heritage Center will be held until Feb. 28.





Makati City will be holding their own Chinese Food Festival in cooperation with Ayala Corporation and all Makati-based hotels from Feb. 3-7 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Ayala Center.





In Pampanga, Holiday Inn Resort Clarkfield will host an array of Chinese New Year activities until Feb. 7.





Baguio City will celebrate the Chinese New Year with a lion dance street parade and fireworks display. Meanwhile, Fort Ilocandia is offering affordable Chinese New Year tour packages for as low as US$100 in Laoag City, Vigan or Pagudpud.
