BAGUIO CITY (PNA) – Baguio City’s bid as a convention capital of the country gets a boost with the opening of a new convention facility in Camp John Hay (CJH) called the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center.

The CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center is an impressive two-level edifice that can house a wide range of functions.

Designed by Architect Enrique Dizon and built by W. Mendoza Construction Co., the building’s main and side entrances are accentuated with ceramic brick walls and red cedar logs that blend smoothly with the pine forest backdrop.

A perfect venue for conventions, seminars and special events, the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center can accommodate up to 3,000 persons.

The main hall can seat around 1,700 persons while the balcony is tiered with 1,000 fixed theater seats. Its spacious lobby and hallways can likewise accommodate exhibits or serve as an external function area for registration and buffet servings.

It also has an executive conference room which can fit 16 to 100 persons.

The Center boasts of the latest in audio system technology, adequate satellite speakers and full sound monitoring facilities. It is also equipped with an overhead remote controlled video projector unit and an auto drop movie screen.

Its 22-meter wide stage also features a heavy motorized velvet curtain and state-of-the-art theatrical lighting system.

According to Benigno T. Cabrieto, chief operating officer of Camp John Hay Development Corp. (CJHDevCo), Baguio is a favorite convention destination because of its cool climate which makes it conducive to holding meetings and conventions.

“At CJH, business trips are turned into pleasure because of the clean environment and the numerous dining and recreational facilities that guests can enjoy on the side,” Cabrieto said.

He added, “Accommodation is also not a problem with the push of CJH Manor, a 189-unit hotel which has studiotype, one bedroom and two-bedroom units. CJHDevCo is also set to start construction of a 287-unit hotel, the Camp John Hay Suites, to be able to accommodate more guests.”

The CAP-John Hay Travel and Cultural Center is part of the master development plan etched by government for CJH.
