PALM SPRINGS CITY, California – Nestled at the foothills of Little San Bernardino Mountains are eight small cities that are popularly known as the Palm Springs Desert Resort City of Southern California.

Also called cities within a city, Palm Springs include: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta and Indio.

My visit here was accidental. I was visiting Colonia, New Jersey with my lawyer brother Josue Jr. to attend the 85th birthday celebration of our mother when my cousin, Joselito Leonor, a resident of Long Beach, California, invited me to visit this magnificent place instead of proceeding to Las Vegas in Nevada as I originally planned.

The Palm Springs is located some 110 miles south of Los Angeles which is accessible by air and land travel, using Route 10 freeways. But we traveled Routes 15 and 74 highways on our way to Temecula Valley to enjoy the panoramic view of Pechanga Mountain Reservations and the San Bernardino Mountains from vista point at 8,000 feet above sea level.

While here, we relaxed in the abundance of sunshine and explored the glamorous playground of stars.

The area also offers a lot of tours to Palm Spring windmill, Whitewater Wonderland, Living Desert, Tramway, celebrity homes and other tourist destinations.

It is in these places — the Andreas and Palm Canyons — that you will find the second largest Palm oasis in North America. There are over 3,000 native palms, as tall as 100 feet, that line the main thoroughfares of the eight cities.

In Rancho Mirage, all of its streets are named after movie greats like Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Gerald Ford. The homes of Elvis Presley, Kirk Douglas, Goldie Hawn and many other movie celebrities are also found in Palm Springs.

It may interest lawn tennis lovers to know that Indian Wells will be the site of World Tennis Association’s (WTA) series of competition and that of Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) on March 3-16, this year.

Hills surround the Palm Springs Desert Resort cities. Brilliant skies, clean air, awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets, open spaces and magnificent mountain vistas are things to experience and enjoy here.

With its five casinos — Agua Caliente Casino, Augustine Casino, Fantasy Springs Casino, SPA Resort Casino and Trump 29 Casino, life here can never be dull. According to reports, businessman Donald Trump is building a new casino here with an ultra-hip mid-century modern look gaming tables.
