64-storey The Eaton to house Holiday Inn Hotel

On Makati and Kalayaan Avenues, The Eaton of Makati will rise, a 64-storey superstructure comprised of a 5-star hotel and a full service residential with an architectural landmark sailboat design.

When completed, The Eaton Makati will house 28 floors of Holiday Inn Hotel, 20 floors of full service apartment, four floors of amenities, seven floors residential suites and four floors of office spaces.

With a captured market from Holiday Inn’s international hotel booking system called “Holidex” which centralizes foreign guests booking automatically to the Holiday Inn network and frequent individual travelers who are the biggest segment of tourists who also comprise Holiday Inn’s clientele, hotel occupancy is assured. Some units of the 20 floors earmarked as residential (full service apartment) units will be used to accommodate long-term guests who prefer to cook their own meals.

The Eaton of Makati will have separate grand lobbies for the hotel and for the residential suites with 15 highspeed elevators. Floor to ceiling height of 2.9 meters, higher than the usual 2.4 meters in most buildings, gives an air of opulence and space. Floor to ceiling curtains will also enhance the view of the Makati skyline for the appreciation of occupants.

The superstructure will install a jointless piping system from Germany that can withstand the maximum pressure of 1,200 psi (pounds per square inch). Since there are no joints, there will be no leaks. On the 7th basement level will contain a sewerage system technology from Denmark capable of recycling water. Although purified, the recycled water will be used only for water closets. Crown Jewel Philippines Holdings Corporation, the developer of The Eaton Makati, has allocated huge amount of its budget to acquire the system due to its cost-effectiveness and in preparation for unforeseen water disturbances in the future. There are three large water tanks in the building — one on the 7th basement level, another on the 26th floor and the other on 62nd floor. Six parking levels have been allotted — three for the Holiday Inn and another three levels for residential suites.

The country’s tallest structure is guaranteed earthquake-resistant with the concrete mix of 14,000 psi. The high concrete mix eliminates bulky and obstructive columns. With such strength, The Eaton Makati will be the country’s strongest structure. Most buildings have concrete strengths of 5,000 to 10,000 psi. Even the world’s tallest building, the Petronas of Malaysia, has a reported strength of only12,000 psi and is already quake resistant.

Noted engineers have expressed the significance of concrete durability. Durability of concrete, they stress, affects the overall performance of the structure. The Eaton Makati is designed using the 28-day compressive strength psi. Its structural design is based on 12,000 psi but specifications for ready mix concrete delivered on site is specified at 14,000 psi.
