Pink Patio beckons tranquility

BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan – It is Boracay’s so-called "Secret Garden." A little piece of paradise engulfed in lush tropical blooms and colorful orchids… And its cottages, with the soft hues of pink…beckons tranquility.

Just a short walk from the world-famous beaches of Boracay near Boat Station 1, Pink Patio Resort boasts of a lot more things to offer, veering away from the usual fare of business and leisure, and added a health and wellness twist to it.

We were billeted at Pink Patio during a recent eco-tour in Aklan and Antique organized by Smart Communications. The Resort has been accredited by the Department of Tourism (DoT) as a "Triple-A Resort" and was cited by the prestigious Kalakbay Awards in 2000 as the "Resort of the Year" in Region 6.

According to guest services officer Jonah Palomata, who has been working with the resort since it opened 10 years ago, the name "Pink Patio" came from the owner’s restaurant in Binondo, Manila with the same name, located at the old Uysubin Building.

Owner Charlie Uy then decided to build their so-called dream house, an 8-bedroom family resthouse painted in pink. When throngs of tourists started coming in Boracay, they decided to open its gates and eventually constructed more rooms to accommodate its growing guests.

One of the conveniences of going to Pink Patio is its shuttle service, the Island Star Express, which takes guests from the airport to the boat station for transfer to Boracay island.

Room interiors have Asian designs with a dash of Filipino and Balinese. Each of the 60 airconditioned deluxe rooms, two family rooms and two suite rooms is equipped with a private toilet and bath, hot and cold shower, television with cable channels, pipe-in music and telephones for local and international calls. Also, high speed internet access on selected rooms.

Although not a beachfront resort, assistant Sales manager Kathy Mercado said that it was quite a surprise that a lot of tourists still opt to stay at Pink Patio. "We have yet to encounter zero occupancy rate," she said.

She hastens to add that aside from its excellent service, it’s the food which keeps people coming back. Eugene Uy, son of the owner, used to work as a chef in Germany before he took over Pink Patio’s kitchen in October, as the resort’s resident chef.

The resort has two restaurant outlets. The Golden Bamboo restaurant serves one of the best mouthwatering Chinese cuisine in the island, while the Garden Café, dubbed as the "Mecca" of coffee lovers, offers the most aromatic brewed coffee and other coffee concoctions. For health buffs, it is the healthy place for garden fresh salads, fruits, sandwiches and fruit juices.

For business and corporate guests, the conference rooms can be classified as classroom, with 120 seating capacity; theater, with 200 seating capacity; banquet facilities with garden setting; and beach set-up, which is made upon request.

The conference rooms are perfect venues for corporate gatherings, sales conventions, training programs, team building seminars and even private parties. The rooms are equipped with modern facilities such as lapel and wireless microphones, laser pointers, audio-video facilities, overhead projector and white boards.

A business center is also available for guests’ computer and internet access needs.

The Alpha Fitness Center is the only one of its kind in the island. One of the major features of the Alpha Fitness Center is the high-technology Alpha Capsule that incorporates dry heat sauna, aromatherapy, ionized air, massage and stereo music. The gym is also equipped with a multi-station trainer, stairmaster, treadmill, free weights, elliptical crosstrainer and a stationary bicycle.

The resort also offers assistance to all its guests regarding airlines reservations, island tour packages, safety deposit box and laundry service.

Water sports enthusiasts will also be assisted for their scuba diving, snorkeling, wind surfing and jet skiing needs. They also offer indoor recreations such as billiards, table and board games. Facilities for beach volleyball are also available. Mountain bikes may be rented as well.

Aside from the Nautica pool, Jacuzzi and bar, one of the newest additions to the resort is the "wall climbing" facility, which is the only one in Boracay. The 11-meter rock wall is a challenge to both professionals and first-time wall climbers who are looking for more action other than playing beach volleyball.
