VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – Governor-elect and Presidential Adviser for North Luzon Luis “Chavit” Singson has urged the assistance and cooperation of the government and private sector to facilitate the implementation of Salomague Seaport and Vigan Airport as a response to increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists coming to Ilocos.

Singson said that these infrastructures are essentials to the tourism development of Ilocos Sur since these will be major access points of tourists and investors from the neighboring Asian countries.

He made the same point during the recent Consultation Meeting on the Tourism Development of North Luzon conducted by the North Luzon Growth Quadrangle Area Program Management Office (NLGQAPMO) here.

Singson said Vigan City needs adequate hotels that could accommodate the influx of tourists in the area. He mentioned that tourists are being enticed from the unique features of Vigan like ancestral homes, old churches and museums, among others.

Singson added that these should be enhanced but it is still necessary to create facilities and entertainment for the tourists to make them stay longer in Vigan, adding that Vigan needs investors for tourism-related projects.

NLGQA executive director Undersecretary Hermenegildo C. Dumlao has been promoting tourism and other prospective business establishments here to generate employment.

Dumlao also cited the support of the chairmen of the Regional Development Councils like Benguet Gov. Raul Molintas, Pangasinan Gov. Victor Agbayani, and Gov. Lara of Cagayan in Region 2.
