In line with the Department of Tourism’s (DoT) "Ganda ng Pilipinas, Galing ng Pilipino" GP2 campaign which aims to further develop tourism services, DoT Secretary Roberto "Obet’’ M. Pagdanganan will lead the launch of the 1st Tourism Human Resources Congress today at The Peninsula Manila Hotel.

Pagdanganan said the activity, which will be held until tomorrow (June 18), will further enhance the industry’s manpower resources enabling them to meet the international standard of tourism service.

"In order to cope with the global challenges in the tourism industry, we must arm ourselves with the changes in the international market. Quality services and products are fast becoming a norm in the new global economy. We must make precedence by introducing speed, innovation and customization," he added.

The Tourism Industry Board Foundation, Inc. (TIBFI) organizer of the event, is a non-stock, non-profit institution composed of representatives from the government (which include the DoT as founding member), private and labor sectors.

The foundation aims to provide manpower development, ensuring an adequate supply of trained workers who will match the skills of the labor force with the manpower requirements of the tourism industry.

TIBFI invited distinguished guest speakers including World Tourism Organization (WTO) representative Professor Chris Cooper to talk about the TedQual Programs, which focuses on quality service assurance and the WTO products and services standard.

Human resources directors and heads of various tourism sub-sectors, associations, industries and government agencies (TESDA, CHED, Government Training Institutions), tour guides and the academe including state colleges and universities are invited to participate in the two-day assembly. Registration fee is R1,500.
