UBAY, Bohol — A 100-hectare Ubay Agri-Park, the first of its kind in the Visayan region was recently launched to boost the agriculture and tourism industries in the area.
The agri-park, which started as farmers technology information center, expanded with the concerted efforts of several government and private agencies. Among its special features are farmers’ techno demo projects, nurseries, farmers’ trading center, salakot with dairy bar and souvenir shops, rodeo arena, horse race track, horses for rent, mini-forest and zoo, gondola ride, and a fishing area.
Ubay has also been the home of the 3,600-hectare Ubay Stock Farm, a research facility for cattle, carabao, goat and sheep breeding. And that stock farm is now the Ubay Agri-Park.
Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado, newly-elected president of the League of Provinces of the Philippines led the launch with Senator Richard Gordon as special guest.
"The Ubay Agri-Park which helps to promote agri-tourism or "farm tourism," is also a showcase of Bohol’s advancement in farm technology. Guests or visitors can interact with the park’s personnel on various aspects of farm technology, and they leave the park much richer in agricultural knowledge or production."
The Ubay Agri-Park, situated along the national highway and approximately a two-hour drive from Tagbilaran City, also promotes "immersion" with the local community’s culture and heritage.
Meanwhile, Sen. Gordon, who was also instrumental in the establishment of the agri-park, hoped it would become a major tourism destination not only in Bohol but also in the entire Visayan region.
Ubay boasts of lush landscapes, tranquil lakes and lagoons, grassy rolling hills and peaceful countryside ambiance offering a rejuvenating appeal to every weary soul.
Ubay Mayor Eutiquio M. Bernales said that the municipal government is giving its full support to the development of the agri-park.
