The Department of Tourism (DoT) has tapped the barangays to push its “Ganda ng Pilipinas, Galing ng Pilipino” (GP2) Project at grassroots level.

The DoT joined hands with the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas through its TV program, “I-Barangay Mo!” and launched the nationwide project at the Fontana Leisure Parks Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga last May.

The GP2 Project instructs the barangay officials and all barangay residents on how to promote tourism at their level via an information campaign.

“It is the expression of the DoT’s vision for the country to become the premier Asian destination. Its key strategy is to promote the ‘Culture of Tourism’ in every Filipino,” said DoT Secretary Roberto Pagdanganan.

The DoT and the Liga ng mga Barangay aims to cultivate this Culture at the Barangay level. “This entails changing the mindset of how the common people perceive and receive tourism,” Liga ng mga Barangay president James Marty Lim noted.

The DoT has also tied up with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) for GP2. A courtesy campaign has already been launched at all international ports of entry for all frontliners. Honesty and outstanding service rewards, mass dissemination of the Culture of Tourism in the barangay level, a 24-hour GP2 Call Center, the organization of GP2 volunteers in the barangay level, among others, have been put into motion.
