‘LUNA LLENA FIESTA’ at the Pearl Farm Davao

Armed with nothing but backpacks, our company of four went to the Mandaya Beach of the Pearl Farm Island Beach Resort in Davao del Norte for the much-awaited Luna Llena Fiesta (Spanish for “full moon festival”) via a motorized banca. Nestled on the quiet island of Samal, the Pearl Farm Island Beach Resort is a mere 45-minute banca ride from the Water Front Insular Hotel wharf in Davao City.

This 14-hectare spread was once a pearl farm where thousands of whitelipped oysters transported from Sulu Sea, are cultivated for their pink, white, and gold pearls. Today, the resort beckons with the promise of a relaxing, private retreat under the care of its friendly, hospitable and charming staff.

As soon as we arrived in the resort, we decided to have a trek on the Mandaya Beach, home to Pearl Farm’s world-class suites and Maranao and Samal-inspired cottages on stilts perched above the sea.

During the Luna Llena Fiesta, bamboo torches and wooden tables in the handsomely combed white sand welcomed us. The whole beach was adorned with tropical flowers.

Mouth-watering food and drinks were aplenty. The delicious aroma of pork and chicken barbecue tantalized our nostrils while our eyes feasted on the delectable finger-food displayed before us. Pizzas were provided by Pizza Hut while hamburgers and hotdogs were supplied by the Nenita Quality Foods.

The Popong Landero Band, as well as the Magallanes Elementary School drumbeaters, started to beat the drums to the crowd’s delight. Besides the music, the Banjee Clowns’ stilt walkers, jugglers, firebreathers, and court jesters also entertained the partygoers.

The Davao Artist Foundation also offered free Henna tattoos, creating tribal designs for the spirited guests.

Killer Bee 89.1 disc jockeys hosted challenging games. Roundtrip tickets to a Philippine destination chosen by the winners were given as prizes, courtesy of the South East Asian Airlines. Door prizes were also furnished by Pearl Farm, Manila Bulletin, Pizza Hut, Humberto’s Pension, and Killer Bee 89.1.

To cap the night off, DJ James McCrannie from Club Halo of Makati better known as the "Godfather of House Music," scratched his turntable. Bodies started grinding after that.

Mandaya Beach was littered with people who strolled the night with fun, laughter, music, food, drinks, and memorable memories. It was a truly full-moon party blast!
