MALOLOS CITY – The travel and tourism sector have supported the ongoing search for "Huwarang Palengke" in Bulacan to bolster domestic tourism and improve the image of the province, according to Ricardo Naguit, Jr., division chief and officer-in-charge of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Central Luzon.
Speaking at the launching program of the 2004 Provincial Search for Huwarang Palengke recently held at the Capitol Gym here, Naguit cited that public markets, being the center of commerce, reflect the image of any administration.
Banked on the theme, "Malinis, De Kalidad at Ligtas na Pamilihang Bayan, Kaagpay sa Pag-unlad ng Pamayanan," the search challenges the public officials to work on improving the image and condition of public markets in their jurisdiction.
With this search, the DTI attempts to correct the terrible impression of the public to public markets, being a breeding area for pollution, traffic congestion, and crimes such as pick pocketing.
Naguit, likewise thanked Gov. Josie Mendoza-Dela Cruz for cooperating with the DTI. The DTI officer-in-charge specifically mentioned the cash rewards that the lady governor will be awarding for thethree model public markets.
The top three markets will receive a metal marker in recognition of its exemplary condition plus a cash prize of R50,000, R30,000, and R20,000 for first, second and third placers, respectively. The winner will be the province’s representative in the regional search.
