In Baguio, there is a place that can be stimulating to the body and yet also restful for the soul. It can be a venue to recharge and relax, yet it also can be a place of challenging physical activity. This place is the Eco-Trail, located in the heart of the lush pine forest of Camp John Hay. It is a 1.8-kilometer footpath that features an unspoiled botanical preserve, an absolute delight for nature lovers.

The Eco-Trail has a number of pathways with several hanging bridges and footbridges. The trail leads straight into the heart of the pine forest, where one can view a variety of natural sights such as a flowing stream, colorful flowers, and stone formations. There is even a wooden, open-air hut where one can just unwind and take in the serene setting near the rushing waters.

A leisurely walk at the trail provides a relaxing escape as one inhales the fresh, pine-scented mountain air and feast his eyes on the lush scenery. On the other hand, if he’s up for a heart-pumping workout, the natural landscape of the Eco-Trail is perfect for challenging ecological-themed races, such as the recently-concluded Eco-Challenge activity by Nivea, in which male celebrities such as Richard Gomez and Marc Nelson participated in physical competition under the verdant canopy of Camp John Hay’s pine trees.

The Eco-Trail is the main highlight of the eco-tourism initiatives of the CJH Development Corporation, which is developing the property while at the same time maintaining the area’s heritage of natural beauty. Activities such as picnicking, hiking, and camping are offered for visitors to appreciate nature more fully and develop sensitivity towards environmental protection.
