The country’s much-awaited international tourism expo starts today (Friday, Sept. 3) at the Megatrade Halls 1 and 2 of SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City, with newly-appointed Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano invited as guest of honor and keynote speaker.

Leading in the ribbon-cutting rites are PTM organizing committee chairman Leo Picaso, secretary general Celine Clemente, advisory board members Emil Garchitorena, Liela Salgado and Christopher Alegre III, and deputy secretary general John Paul Cabalza for travel fair, Yvonne Pascual for special events, Joebert Cocjin for finance, Brenda Consul for business prospects, and Roberto L. Castro Jr. for sponsorship.

Picaso will deliver the welcome remarks, and PTM Foundation president Eddie Nuque the brief message on how PTM has evolved into a private sector-led international event.

They will usher the members of the global tourism industry in a tour of the PTM exhibits, showcasing the country’s finest destinations, facilities, products and packages.

These will be spiced up with exciting raffle draws and colorful cultural performances. At the same time, Philippine Airlines will offer a 50 percent discount on its domestic flights during the expo’s three-day run.

Shortly after lunch, the 30 Best Booth finalists will be judged, and the Quiz Bee Finals of the Department of Tourism (DoT) shall be concluded.

Beginning at 1 p.m., Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) president Noemi Saludo will welcome local and foreign investors to a tourism investment seminar, which will be held at the Megatrade conference room.

In between raffle draws are other special events that include presentations by local government units, Trivia Game, Best On-Site Photo contest, My Best Travel Photo competition, and Bituin ng Kasuotan Filipino pageant.

Meanwhile, one-on-one meetings between local sellers of tourism packages and foreign buyers will be held tomorrow, Sept. 4, at the Holiday Inn Galleria Suites.

This whole day affair is PTM’s so-called “Travel Exchange,” which will be staged back to back with the Philippine Travel Exchange (Phitex) of the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corp. (PCVC), the marketing arm of the DoT.

Finally, the third day of the 15th PTM will feature a thanksgiving mass and corporate and regional presentations, a parade of the winners of the Bituin ng Kasuotan pageant, and a song number from the Negros Navigation Singing Porters.

Expected to give the closing remarks is former Tourism Secretary Roberto Pagdanganan, shortly before the announcement and awarding of the winners of the PTM’s photo contests.

Sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Pagcor, Philippine Tourism Authority, Philippine Airlines, WG&A, and Air Philippines, the 15th PTM is supported by the DoT and the PCVC.
