The Cagayan Valley Region, famous for its pilgrimages and eco-adventure destinations, will showcase these and more as it opens today its “WOW Philippines! Best of the Regions” stint in Intramuros, Manila.

Dubbed as “WOW Pagayaya na Cagayan Valley Region,” the said showcase in Clamshell 1 will be held until Oct. 3. It promises a different adventure and pilgrimage encounter to visitors giving them a glimpse of the Region’s rich culture and experience Cagayanons’ warmth and hospitality.

A grand parade of festivals of the five provinces of Region 2, namely Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya and Batanes, will open today’s ceremony. Other highlights such as a fashion show and free concert by Anklung and other homegrown artists will be held later in the evening.

Department of Tourism (DoT) Region 2 Director Blessida Diwa said, “The local government units (LGUs) and the private sector of the five provinces are more aggressive to participate at the ‘WOW Philippines Best of the Regions’ this year because of the big revenue they generated from last year amounting to R3 million in 14 days. The furniture of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Santiago and Nueva Vizcaya were among the best sellers.”

In addition to the more than 60 exhibits, there will also be an actual demonstration of the different crafts, actual weaving of Gaddang cloth, cooking demo of ‘pancit cabagan’ of Isabela and display of the Ivatan homes of Batanes.

Adventure sports enthusiasts will be treated to rappelling and wall climbing while food lovers will have a taste of the Cagayan cuisine like ‘dinengdeng’, ‘igadu’, ‘tunamis’, ‘longganisa’, carabao milk candy, Perante Oranges and ‘pinakbet’ in the food festival.

A replica of the cave system and the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Piat will be set up inside the Clamshell. A Holy Mass will also be held everyday in commemoration of the 400th year celebration of the arrival of Our Lady of Piat from Macau and her 50th year as Queen of the Valley.

Moreover, each of the five provinces of the Region have scheduled presentations: Batanes (Sept. 18); Isabela (Sept. 21); Cagayan Province (Sept. 23); Tuguegarao City (Sept. 24); Quirino Province (Sept. 26); and Santiago City (Sept. 29).
