3-day history conference in Cavite draws travel and tourism stakeholders’ interest

Cavite province tourism stakeholders hailed yesterday the holding of a national conference with the theme “Focus on Cavite and Beyond: Local History in the Context of National History,” to be held at the Rolle Hall of Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite on Oct. 21-23, 2004. The convenors of the conference are the Philippine National Historical Society.(PNHS) and the Cavite Studies Center, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. The conference is co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – Committee on Historical Research, Cavite Historical Society, Cavite municipal and city historical societies and various local government units in Cavite.



A total of 21 lectures on Cavite as well as on other provinces and institutions that will be read and expounded by historians are expected to givetravel executives and tourism business leaders an in sight into places and events thatthey may develop as historical tourism destinations in Caviteand elsewhere in the country.



Former Prime Minister Cesar E.A. Virata who is president of Cavite Historical Society will keynote the conference with a paper on Cavite’s economic transformation.



Among the conference lecturers will beDrs. Bernardita Churchill, Emmanuel Calairo,Rosalinda Garibay, Antonio Hila, Rene Escalante, Ronaldo Mactal, Earl Jude Paul Cleope, Elmer Ordoñez, Efren Abueg and other professors such as Regalado Trota Jose, Calbi Asain, Maria Eloisa de Castro, Francis Gealogo, Daniel Talde, Rolando Borrinaga and Emmanuel Romanillos. The National Historical Institute will be represented by Jeffrey Lubang and Augusto de Viana, while Philip Nazareno will deliver a paper for the late Cavite City Vice Mayor Antonio Nazareno.Noted independent scholar and author Felice Prudente Sta. Maria will also speak in the conference.



Included in the three-day conference are trade fair of Cavite products, book sale, cultural presentations and Lakbay-aral sa Kabite.
