The Department of Tourism brings back its crowd-drawing Best of the Regions showcases at the Clamshell 1 in Pueblo Pilipino, Intramuros, but only now with a refreshingly new twist.

Now dubbed "Philippines’ Bests!," the revitalized promotional campaign uses a thematic approach for each quarter, focusing on a special feature that characterizes the country’s tourism products.

"With this revitalized campaign and thematic clustering, people will have something new to look forward to. The regions, on the other hand, will be able to present a new facet in their tourism products and attractions," Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano said.

"Ginintuang Pamana" or the Filipinos’ remarkable history and heritage in arts and culture is the theme of shows from April to June. In July, the focus shifts to "Luntiang Kalikasan," where regional shows will feature the beautiful destinations and eco-friendly programs. The theme for the last quarter of the year called "Lakas-Bisig Pinoy" centers on sports tourism and adventure tour packages. For the entire month of December, there will be an ultimate show featuring the "Best of the Best" of tourism products in all regions and a "Paskong Pinoy" celebration.

"The Philippines has always something to offer even to the most discriminating traveler. Apart from the celebrated Filipino hospitality, we have world-class destinations and an assortment of exciting activities that will keep tourists coming to the country," he noted.

The Central Mindanao region kicks off the series of new shows tomorrow, April 3. Its presentation titled "Kuyog" (all-together) will showcase the region’s architectural heritage through replicas of old mosques and shrines; the artistry and diversity of its ethnic tribes; and its rich culture.

"We want people to appreciate the richness and beauty of Central Mindanao, which is often overshadowed by the negative elements that steal the headlines and create flawless impressions of the real situation in the province," DOT Region 12 director Sohura Dimaampao stressed.

Of course, the best-selling attractions that these regional shows have been known for will still be around — these are the souvenir items like hand-woven products, ornaments and special delicacies found only in the region.

Meanwhile, Bureau of International Tourism Promotions/Special projects director Ting de los Reyes said the new attractions to watch out for are world-class cultural performances, operas, zarzuelas, cultural concerts and book launchings courtesy of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, National Historical Institute and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Reyes added that a "Biyahe Na" counter will also be provided inside the Clamshell tent (venue of the show) where visitors can get information on destinations in the provinces and even book their trips on the spot.
